About Us

Thank you for visiting my website and for your interest in my photography. I hope you've enjoyed what you have seen so far.

I'm a freelance photographer, having converted a passion into a profession. Fourteen years ago I returned to live in England after a varied and wonderful life travelling the world with my then husband, the late Rodney Calvert, in pursuit of his career in the oil industry as a geophysicist. With my family having flown the nest I was free to devote myself to my passion full time as a professional photographer. My great love for travel and exploration continued, but this time travelling solely in the pursuit of photography. Since my return to England I have ventured out again to  Africa x2 (Zimbabwee, Botswana and Namibia), Antarctica x3, Antigua, Australia,  Cambodia,  Canada (western), China x2 , Croatia, Cyprus, Ecuador,  Egypt, Estonia, Finland x 2, France, Galapagos, Greenland x3, Iceland, Italy, Japan, Madeira, Maldives x2, Mauritius,  Morocco, New Zealand, Norway, Northern Canada (including Baffin Island), South America and (Patagonia),  Spain x2,  Spitzbergen x2, Sweden, Thailand, Tobago x3, U.S.A. ( Alaska, Texas & Colorado).   In November/December 2004 I went to Antarctica for the third time. This time to explore the Weddell Sea in an icebreaker and to visit emperor penguin colonies when the chicks were young. It was the highlight of my travel and nature photography career, a trully amazing trip.

Most of my image sales are through photo agencies and links to these can be found on this site. I call myself a `Landscape, Nature and Travel Photographer' but I'll tackle practically any subject tand recently have started working on conceptual and food photography.  My images are marketed through
www.gettyimages.com, www.superstock.com , www.imagestate.co.uk ,  www.alamy.co.uk , www.stillpictures.com and www.sunshinephoto.nl

A love for flowers and plants has been with me since I was a small child, then Rosemary Phillips. For some years Amateur Gardening published my images nearly every week and to date I've had 56 front covers, www.ipcmedia.com . My flower and plant images are also sold online from www.flowerphotos.com  and  www.chromazoneflowers.com

My affinity for wildlife has brought me close to the creatures I photograph and given me so much pleasure. Wildlife fascinates me. To stand in the surf close to penguins, view a wasp through a macro lens or frame a grizzly bear through a telephoto lens all generate within me a sense of wonder and awe. My work appeared in the `Photography Yearbook' from 1993 until it ceased publication and for a number of years I wrote for the magazine 'Practical Photography'. I am a Fellow of the Royal Photographic Society and served on the Royal Photographic Society Panel judging Fellowships and Associateships for the Travel Section for 4 years.

I am delighted to say that I recently married Angus Laird and ! now don't travel on my own with the sole purpose of taking photos. I mostly work from home and have developed a new area of photography. I discovered there was a market for still-life so moved into the field of creative conceptual photography which also includes close-up flower and plant photography, my first love. Examples of my best selling work can be found on the 'News and Events' page of my website and there is a link to Getty Images on my home page which will take you directly to all my images currently with Getty Images where the majority of my sales are made today.

A personal note:
I am delighted to say that when I married Angus Laird I took his name and socially I am Rosemary Laird although my professional name will remain as Rosemary Calvert. Sadly my first husband, Rodney Calvert, died after a courageous year long fight with cancer on 22nd November 2007.
